ABOUT THIS EVENT:
ABDA is excited to present AKC hunt test judge and hunting dog trainer, Randy Hall from Ohio, for our August pointing dog hunt test weekend. On Saturday Randy will spend the day sharing with us what the dogs taught him – how to communicate with them to achieve shared goals. He does not rely on the use of electronic correction collars or use heavy-handedness with his dogs to achieve excellent results.
RANDY HALL'S BIO:
A little Weimaraner puppy purchased in 1978 was the catalyst to Randy’s journey to live-long learning. That journey included becoming an NRA certified Shooting Instructor, AKC hunt test judge for pointing breeds, private trainer for several large hunting preserves in North Carolina, becoming a licensed certified upland hunting guide, certified hunter education instructor teaching hunter education and safety classes. Through all this time Randy was involved in the training of thousands of hunting dogs.
His US military career took him to Germany where he gained additional exposure to pointing dog and retriever kennels and watch those dogs perform at various testing events. He, again, found that success is only achieved through communication and understanding between dog and human. To this day, he learns through reading, watching events, speaking with dog trainers/handlers of all types and sports, and by meeting and working with new dogs.
His record includes 20+ Master Hunters, 200+ Senior Hunters, 6 Field Champions, numerous Dual Champions, several NAHVDA UTs.
SATURDAY CLINIC OUTLINE:
In the morning, a short group session to set the groundwork and expectations of training and handling to get everyone on the same page and learn a little bit about the attendants’ dogs and training goals.
This will be followed with dogs in the field. That’s where he will work on the various hunt test requirements with the dogs on hand. Topics covered range from the young puppy through the finished gun dog. The sessions will include his training techniques but also tips on how to be the best handler helping your dog to qualify at the test and become a joy to hunt over in the field.
The clinic will begin promptly at 8:00 AM and continue all day with a break for lunch (BYO).
Entry fee $125. Event registration is limited to 20 participants with one dog each. No audit spots.
